The Indika History

Indika Reggae Band stands as one of Chicago’s top Cultural Ambassadors.

They blend world-class musicianship with the deep traditions of the Caribbean, Africa, and the Americas. Since their start in the mid-1990s, the band has become a staple of the city’s music scene, known for electrifying live shows and a genuine commitment to bringing people together through music. From the 1990’s to Today – Indika is still one of Chicago’s Top Reggae Bands.

The band is currently led by U-Roy Muslar, a Belizean-born vocalist with incredible stage presence. He is guiding Indika into a powerful new era of growth and visibility. His leadership respects the band’s long legacy while adding fresh energy and a renewed focus on reggae’s universal themes of love, resilience, and justice.

Indika’s lineup truly reflects the diversity of Chicago. With musicians representing Central America, the Caribbean, and Africa, their sound is a massive celebration of global rhythm. While roots reggae is at the core, they seamlessly mix in elements of dancehall, soca, calypso, punta, R&B, jazz, and compa. This unique blend allows them to transcend borders and connect with fans from all walks of life.

As a trusted name in live entertainment, Indika has performed at iconic venues like The Wild Hare, Navy Pier, and the United Center. Their reach extends far beyond Chicago, with a loyal following across Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Kansas, and Arkansas.

The band has also earned the respect of reggae royalty. Over the years, Indika has served as the backing band for legends such as Gregory Isaacs, Luciano, Richie Spice, and Calypso Rose. With multiple Martin Intercultural Music Awards to their name, Indika remains a vital part of Chicago’s multicultural identity, proving that music has the power to heal, uplift, and unite communities across generations.
